Fizzy Cocktail Experiment

Bring science lessons into the kitchen with this fizzy cocktail experiment, guaranteed to surprise the kids - try if you dare!

When mixing alkaline baking soda with something acidic, like lemon or lime juice, carbon dioxide is released which quickly forms fizzy bubbles!

1. Pour 50ml lemon or lime juice into a glass or beaker.

2. Stir in a little sugar and give it a taste – add some more sugar if you like. You could also add food colouring here to give your cocktail a fun colour!

3. Give the mixture a good stir.

4. Now for the fun part… Take a heaped spoonful of baking soda and stir into the cocktail.

The reaction will cause your cocktail to fizz up – step back to watch it happen!
