Egg Cress Heads

Method

This is a great activity that gets kids excited about growing cress themselves in their own decorated eggshells! Cress grows quickly, so the little ones will be able to see the magic within days. You can enjoy boiled eggs and soldiers in the morning before you make these, so the eggs aren’t wasted.

  1. Heat up a pan of water and boil the eggs for 6 minutes (these can be eaten first as we only want the shell, just carefully take the lid off)
  2. Now wash out the egg, use a little knife to scrape anything out. Leave to dry for a minute and pop them into egg cups.
  3. Decorate your eggshells as you wish, patterns, animals, superheroes, family members!
  4. Once decorated, pop in some damp cotton wool into the bottom of the shells and share out the cress seeds among the 4 eggs.
  5. Pop them on a sunny windowsill and wait for the magic to happen. The cress will sprout out the top like hair and once the cress is green you can eat it!
