100 Years Of Belling

This year Belling celebrates an important milestone - its 100th birthday.

Founded in 1912 by Charles Reginald Belling with capital of just £150, a shed in Enfield and a young assistant, Belling has become one of the UK’s best loved kitchen appliance brands, with a multi-million pound turnover, worldwide exports and more than 1000 employees in the UK – and it’s still manufacturing right here in the UK.

The brand’s rich 100 year history has seen it launch a number of world and UK cooking firsts, developing products and technologies decades ago that still are important to British cooks today. These innovations include the first all enamelled cooker, the first domestic fan oven, the first slot-in cooker, the first range cooker and, most recently, the world’s first induction cooker.

Pioneering stem cell charity, Anthony Nolan, has been chosen by members of the public and by Belling employees to be Belling’s Charity of the Year during its centenary celebrations. Over the coming months Belling will work closely with Anthony Nolan on a year-long programme of activity to raise thousands of pounds from staff fundraising and a contribution from sales of the 100 Collection.

Introducing the Belling 100 Year Collection

To celebrate its birthday, Belling wanted to produce a collection of products which combined its rich heritage as a great British brand with modern good looks and technical innovation. The resulting 100 Collection combines clean lines, a brilliant white finish and chrome accents to create a range of eye-catching and effortlessly stylish appliances with real ‘wow’ factor. The collection offers a choice of four freestanding ovens, four range cookers, four built-in ovens and a new-look for the legendary Baby Belling.

Belling colleagues supporting Anthony Nolan

Supporting Anthony Nolan

Pioneering stem cell charity, Anthony Nolan, was unveiled as Belling’s Charity of the Year after winning a staff and public vote.

To support Anthony Nolan’s important work, Belling employees will be undertaking a number of fundraising activities. On the 22nd April, three bold colleagues will be taking steps – 30,000, in fact – to complete the London Marathon for the first time. Estimates have indicated that Belling’s own Amanda Byrne, Colin Gardner and Andy Green will take just over 30,000 steps to complete the Marathon, and every single one of them will raise money for our chosen charity.

Soon after that, 36 Glen Dimplex Home Appliance colleagues will cycle 25, 50 or 90 miles of the Liverpool to Chester Bike Ride on Sunday 8th July to give their fundraising total a boost.

Belling 100 year events

Every birthday deserves a celebration and as a way of thanking our supporters and celebrating our 100 years, Belling is proud to be sponsoring a wide range of major events throughout 2012 including the BBC Good Food Shows and the Blickling Proms.

Good Food Show

Belling will be the exclusive Kitchen Appliance Supplier to all of the BBC Good Food Shows for the second consecutive year, supplying its market leading kitchen appliances to all of the kitchens and live demonstration theatres of the BBC Good Food Shows, which attract 250,000 visitors each year. This year’s BBC Good Food Show line-up includes: BBC Good Food Show Spring (12-15th April) BBC Good Food Show Summer (13-17th June) BBC Good Food Scotland (19-21st October), BBC Good Food Show Winter (28th November -2nd December) and the country’s first chance to see the MasterChef Champion 2012 live on stage at MasterChef Live (9-11th November).

The BBC Good Food Shows will once again play host to a top line up of celebrity chefs, including James Martin, Rachel Allen, Mary Berry and many more, who will all conduct live cooking demonstrations on Belling’s induction appliances.

The Blickling Proms

On 11th August Belling will also be sponsoring classical outdoor music event, Blickling Proms, as part of its 100th year birthday celebrations. A grand, British Proms spectacular, the event is a true celebration of some of the greatest music ever written and performed by the highly acclaimed Sinfonia Viva orchestra and Soprano Annette Wardell, under conductor Roderick Dunk. And if that isn't enough to whet the appetite, there will also be a magnificent, choreographed air display by the Grace Spitfire to William Walton's thrilling Spitfire Prelude to conclude the first half and a great fireworks finale over the lake to finish. The Belling History Book

From its humble beginnings in a shed in Enfield, London, Belling has become a household name responsible for some of the most important innovations in the UK cooking market.

To celebrate our rich heritage and to share some of our stories with you, we commissioned a history book. This colourful, illustrated book takes you through our development decade by decade, from the launch of the legendary Baby Belling to the creation of the first domestic fan oven.
